Asda, Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer were the big winners at this year’s 2009 Quality Food Awards, held last night in London.
Asda products picked up six awards at the ceremony, including best accompaniment for its Extra Special Exotic Conserves, best beverage for its Extra Special White Muscat, and best biscuit for its Extra Special Slowbaked Fruit & Oat Cookies.
Sainsbury’s products came a close second, with wins in the food-to-go category for its Taste the Difference Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich and in the fresh meat, game & poultry category for its Taste the Difference Ultimate Outdoor-reared pork chipolatas, among others.
Winners for M&S included its King Prawn Noodle Soup.

The Gold Q award for the best overall product went to Genius gluten-free bread, which judges praised as an amazing technical achievement for such a complex product.
This year’s awards also featured a new section for the best products in supermarkets’ “value” categories.
Sainsbury’s and Asda emerged as top dogs in the value category, with Sainsbury’s Basics products winning seven trophies and Asda Smart Price lines taking five. Musgrave Retail Partners GB also won two value awards.
Sainsbury’s Basics 10 Fish Fingers won the Gold Value Q for the best overall value product.
