Nisa-Today’s waste packaging scheme, which currently involves collecting cardboard and plastic from members’ stores and then recycling this back at its Harlow depot, was recently extended to all members located around the M25 corridor.
Since the rollout 1,736 cages of waste have been collected from 155 stores in just three weeks.
Due to this success, the scheme is set to roll out to the entire membership served directly from Nisa-Today’s Harlow depot and the launch of the initiative at the Stoke depot has been brought forward and will now be launched in three stages starting on the 13 September.
The scheme dramatically reduces Nisa members’ stores landfill charges, with the potential to cut their annual waste costs by up to 90%, as well as having an extremely positive effect on the environment.
Jonathan Stowe, Nisa’s distribution director, said: “The Waste Packaging programme is progressing very well and we have received excellent feedback from Nisa members. It’s our intention to eventually offer this service to all Nisa members, which will significantly benefit both members and the environment.”
