NFRN welcomes newspaper price rises

The National Federation of Retail Newsagents has said that the decision by the Times and the Daily Star Saturday to raise cover prices is a good one.

President of the NFRN Naresh Purohit said that News International (owner of the Times) and Express Newspapers (which controls the Star) have offered this level of support to retailers.

“In return, the NFRN is pleased to support both titles, along with others that keep pace with current percentage margins. We would hope that other publishers follow suit when pricing structures are reviewed,” he commented.

Purohit praised the Times for increasing the Monday to Friday price to 80p, but added that he was disappointed the 5p rise on the other paper will not extend to Scotland.

The NFRN has in recent times launched a campaign with the attempt to ensure news publishers maintain percentage margins to retailers.
