New lines and expert advisers at wholesaler Makro

Wholesaler Makro is going ahead with an ambitious investment and refurbishment programme that it claims will see more focus on greater numbers of speciality and regional lines.

According to managing director Hannes Floto, the next three years will bring a “dynamic change” across the wholesaler’s 33 stores in the UK with “significant investment and refurbishment across key stores.”

Other changes being touted by Floto include more than 2,000 new fresh produce lines, expert advisors to provide guidance on fresh produce, meat, fish and wine as well as improved fixtures and clearer signage.

Floto also claimed there were strategic changes in the pipeline, which he said were in response to customer demand for a more specialist service as well as market developments.

“We look forward to announcing a raft of initiatives in the coming months that will excite customers in all the markets we serve,” he added.

The wholesaler has already launched multi-million pound refurbishment projects across stores in Charlton, Rayleigh, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Makro is part of Metro Group, one of Europe’s biggest trading groups with outlets in 30 countries. Makro has 33 stores in the UK offering 25,000 products across food and non food. It is the third largest UK cash and carry wholesaler with £1.1bn turnover.
