Supermarket retailer Morrisons is eyeing a clutch of Somerfield stores likely to be put on the market by the Co-op, which is in the process of buying the chain, says the Daily Telegraph.
The number of stores Morrisons is interested in buying is yet to be determined, reports the paper.
Meanwhile, Morrisons has slashed the prices of more than 2,000 products across grocery, health & beauty, home and leisure.
It has taken half-page adverts in national newspapers to highlight the deals.
Morrisons is tomorrow due to unveil its first quarter results, which are expected to show sales growth ahead of the market at around 6.5%.
