Marks & Spencer (M&S) has fired the boss of its China operations, after a number of problems at its Shanghai flagship store.
Richard Sweet, along with a “small number” of other senior members of staff, is leaving following a review of the employment structure, the firm said.
The Shanghai store met with numerous complaints after it was opened in October, over the availability of stock and range of items on offer.
Some “food stock issues” are being seen at the branch, M&S confirmed, but said this will be resolved by the end of the week.
Customs officials have also prevented other stock from entering the country.
M&S refused to say whether Sweet had been sacked or made redundant.
The company is to cut 1,200 jobs in the UK after reporting poor sales figures.
