Makro cuts sales of foie gras

Cash and carry giant Makro has stopped selling foie gras at its depots after protests by an animal rights group.

According to reports, the wholesaler is investigating claims by animal rights campaign group Viva that force-feeding the birds to make the goose and duck liver pate constitutes cruelty.

The move sees Makro join the likes of Sainsbury, Tesco as well as Marks & Spencer in banning foie gras. Production of the food stuff is banned in the UK and several other countries including Germany, Poland and Norway.
