Lidl supermarkets ration rice sales

Supermarket chain Lidl is rationing rice sales in its UK stores amid worldwide shortages, according to the BBC.

Lidl has restricted purchases to two 10kg bags where sold, or five 1kg packs in other stores.

The firm told the BBC it wanted to ensure that families could buy rice without any restrictions.

The Financial Times also reported Danish-owned Netto has been restricting the sale of larger bags of rice to one per person across the UK.

Other media reports said Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s were also rationing rice.

But all denied they were currently limiting sales.
