Lidl, the discount supermarket chain, is set to open 50 extra stores and create 2,000 new jobs this year after seeing continued success.
The company’s takings rose 11.6% in December as rivals such as Marks & Spencer and Waitrose were hit by the credit crunch, reports the Daily Mirror.
Spokesman Marco Ivone said: “If you look at our car parks now you will see Mercedes, BMWs and Audis, which you would never have seen ten years ago.”
Lidl was among the winners on last month’s market share figures released by TNS.
Meanwhile, the supermarket chain has also said it will only stock British chicken, pork and beef from today following Jamie Oliver’s TV campaign.
