‘Just 12%’ eating fruit and veg intake

Only 12% of the population in the UK is eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, according to a new report.

On average, the intake of fresh produce is 2.6 portions a day, TNS found in its usage panel data.

TNS Global business development manager Chris Kingsland said that there is a possibility consumers are beginning to eat more frozen and canned products, as their budgets are stretched.

He added that only 11.4% of the five a day consumption takes place at breakfast, which is considered to be the healthiest meal of the day.

Last month, TNS said that British consumers value healthy eating, after the firm’s Biggest Brands survey showed nutritional items have become more popular.
