Hot weather to boost barbecue food and drinks sales, says Asda

Asda have revealed its preparations for the expected rise in sales of barbecue food and drink, as the hot weather looks set to continue this weekend.

The supermarket is predicting a barbecue boost to its sales and are expecting to sell five million sausages – 70% more than normal; one million burgers; 500,000 bags of salad – 20% more than a normal week; a 115% increase in sales of burger buns; a 60% increase in sales of ice cream cupcakes; a 75% increase in sales of Pimm’s; and a 300% increase in sales of Melton Mowbray pork pies.

Chris Carden, Asda’s head of fresh food supply, said: “We have already seen rising sales throughout the week of typical barbecue fare such as burgers and sausages but with the mini heat wave expected to continue into the weekend, we’re expecting it to be one of the biggest we’ve ever seen for barbecue foods.”
