Asda has reported a rise in frozen food sales as consumers look to save money during the recession.
The company said meat joint sales have grown 48% in a year, fish cakes 23% and frozen peas 13%.
Fish fingers have also enjoyed new popularity, with sales up 5% to £609m, the British Frozen Food Federation said.
Mark Pym from the supermarket said: “We’ve seen a significant growth in frozen food sales, with meat, poultry and fish leading the way.”
The British Frozen Food Federation said shoppers are increasingly turning to these types of meal as the credit crunch hits their finances.
Waitrose today revealed that so-called comfort foods are high on people’s agendas during the bleak January month.
