Final call for retail training scholarships

Skillsmart Retail and Retail Trust today (8 January 2010) made a final call for retailers to apply for seven prestigious training scholarships.

Applicants have just over two weeks to apply for one of the free places worth nearly £2,000 each for the Oxford Retail Masters Forum.

The four-day residential, held at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford from 22-25 March 2010, allows managers to network and learn from some of the most respected experts in retail.

Anne Seaman, chief executive of Skillsmart Retail said: “This is the last chance to get on to one of the best training courses in the country for free so I would urge retailers not to miss out on the opportunity.”

The course is run by the British Shops and Stores Association (BSSA) and gives attendees the opportunity to learn from some of the leading lights in the industry whilst participating in exercises designed to maximise potential and showcase ability.

Delegates take part in a series of lectures and seminars looking a range of topics affecting retail and get the chance to listen to speeches from some of retail’s top names, including Theo Paphitis, chairman of Ryman Stationery and star of BBC TV’s Dragons Den programme.

Scholarships are available to anyone who has worked in the industry for at least seven years, and are particularly relevant for senior managers, regional managers and store managers. Applications are particularly encouraged from SMEs and independent retail businesses.

The closing date for applications is 22 January 2010.
