According to The Independent the motion would force Tesco to either withdraw its claim that it supports animal welfare or to adopt minimum welfare standards set by the RSPCA.

More than 100 investors have backed the motion, says the newspaper, which will be debated at the AGM on 27 June.

Tesco says it checks its suppliers regularly and believes its birds meet the highest welfare standards.
