They have joined other supporting organisations including Food from Britain, the regional food groups and the NFU.
Organised by the Home-Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA), the theme for this year’s campaign is “A Great Start”, which aims to encourage everyone to wake up to a balanced breakfast as part of a healthy lifestyle.
According to the HGCA, 1,500 events are planned to take place across the UK.
In Wales Tesco is running a competition to support the campaign and has teamed up with the Royal Highland Education Trust in Scotland to lend its support and will be hosting an event at Murrayfield.
Speaking at today’s launch of the 2008 campaign, food writer Rosemary Moon said: “It’s very easy to slate supermarkets these days but you must applaud the ones who are doing great things to include regional foods. However, they must go beyond jams and chutneys and look to meat and other breakfast foods as well.
“Farmhouse breakfast Week encourages us all to look and see what great breakfast foods are being produced on our doorstep – and to make them a regular part of our weekly shop.”
