Exclusive: Own label groceries boosted

Almost half of shoppers are buying more own label products than they were 3 months ago, according to new exclusive figures.

This week’s survey, conducted by Empathy Research for TalkingRetail.com, found 41% of shoppers have switched to own labels during this time period.

However, 67% of respondents said only the quality of some own label products is as good as their equivalent brands.

And just 22% of respondent said all own label goods match branded items in terms of quality.

56% of those polled said they are buying the same amount of own label products than they were three months ago.

In the 25 to 34-year-old age category, 55% said they are purchasing more own label items now.

Empathy Research polled 1,000 people from its Pigsback.com consumer website.

Weekly intelligence reports are being provided by the firm for TalkingRetail.com.
