A Staffordshire community store has been voted ‘the best in Britain’ and scooped a £10,000 prize, as part of a national awards programme.
Doal Food & News, in Wheaton Aston, has also been handed £1,000 for charity, as part of the Blakemore Wholesale Lifestyle Express Retailer of the Year Awards.
The store, which is owned by Channi and Geeta Doal, beat off stiff competition from stores located as far-a-field as Gateshead, Bangor and Newport, south Wales.
The awards recognise excellence across a range of criteria including internal and external standards, customer service, range compliance, merchandising, promotional and own-brand support, loyalty and community involvement.
Doal Food & News delivers groceries to the elderly and also provides a personal shopper service for residents at the local rest home.
Doal said: “We feel very privileged to be part of Lifestyle Express and have achieved so much with the support of Blakemore Wholesale.”
The retailers have decided to donate their £1,000 charity prize to the First Responders, who attend emergency calls received by the ambulance service and provide care until the ambulance arrives.
