Co-operative Farms put turkey on the menu

the_co-opreative_food_2The Co-operative Farms has expanded its Grown by Us range to include turkeys in the run-up to Christmas.

The Truly Irresistible fresh free range bronze whole turkeys will be sold in selected Co-operative food stores with a Reared by Us label.

It is the first time The Co-operative’s Grown by Us range has been extended to include meat.

The turkeys are bronze birds, reared in partnership with Kelly Turkey Farms. They are reared using traditional methods, allowing them to roam freely in and around trees and with access to an open-sided shelter with deep straw.

They join an expanding Grown by Us range – food and drink either grown by The Co-operative Farms, or made using ingredients grown by the business.

The Co-operative Food stores already stock, in season, potatoes, carrots, onions, apples, strawberries, peas, beetroot, broccoli, sweetcorn, honey, flour, apple juice and cider under the Grown by Us label.

The turkeys will be in stores from around Saturday 19 December, and will cost £45 for each 5kg bird.

As well as free-range turkeys, The Co-operative is extending its higher-welfare Elmwood standard to all its fresh and frozen own-brand turkey and turkey crowns this Christmas.
