The Co-operative Group is donating £50,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Appeal for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
In addition, collection boxes will be available in all Co-operative Food stores and in the group’s travel, pharmacy and bank branches across the UK to enable customers to donate to the appeal.
Meanwhile, opportunities to offer more long-term support to help co-operatives in Haiti re-build will be explored by the group’s Social Goals team.
Peter Marks, chief executive of The Co-operative Group, said: “The levels of devastation caused by this earthquake are almost impossible for us to imagine. We hope that our donation will go some small way to help alleviate the suffering.”
