Booker chief executive Charles Wilson has taken over as president of Sweet Charity, the official charity for the confectionery industry.
Wilson, who was previously the charity’s vice-president, has begun his 12-month term with the aim of growing the funds raised in the last year.
“Over 1,500 people were helped last year, which is a fantastic achievement and I am looking forward to helping raise the funds needed for this worthy cause,” he said.
Wilson said he would ensure in the challenging economic climate that more of the fundraising would go to the beneficiaries and sponsors would get more for their money.
Past president Dave Pogson, sales director at Cadbury, will officially hand over to Wilson at The Candy Rocks Party event being held at London’s Hard Rock Café on September 16.
