Big Price Drop to help Tesco customers with cost of living in 2012

Tesco has continued its Big Price Drop campaign with another wave of price cuts in stores across the UK.

Customers are said to have reacted “positively” to the campaign since it began in September and Tesco will continue Big Price Drop this year.

The supermarket has already reduced the price of thousands of products and will target the latest round of price cuts on the most popular staples that customers buy each week.

UK CEO Richard Brasher said: “As we look ahead to 2012 people across the country are saying they need more help with the cost of living.

“With rising utility bills and soaring petrol prices, families are having to cut down on the staples, not just the extras and seeing their incomes ‘squeezed.’

“Tesco is committed to helping families in these tough times and the Big Price Drop, an investment of more than £500m in lowering prices on everyday products, will continue on into next year.

“Big Price Drop is not a one-hit wonder. It is a rolling campaign to help customers save more money every day at Tesco on the essentials they need the most.”

Tesco has already cut the price of over 350 new products spread across basic items including bread, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

It is claimed a trolley shop containing a selection of 50 of these reduced staples will reduce in price from £64 to £56 – a saving of £8.
