BBQ sales rocket for Guy Fawkes night, says Tesco


tesco store frontTesco has reported a surge in sales of BBQs and BBQ foods in the run up to bonfire night on the 5 November.

The retailer said sales of disposable BBQs were already up 43 per cent on last year by Tuesday morning (3 November) with the main bulk of sales still to come.

Tesco said it expected to sell 5 million sausages,150,000 packs of burgers, 200,000 packs of chicken drumsticks, 10 million bottles or cans of beer and 1 million bottles of wine before the fires are lit.

Sales of quieter fireworks have doubled compared to last year with 300,000 sets expected to be sold with more people set to celebrate Guy Fawkes night at home.

“Sales of fireworks this year have been strong and it looks as if more people will be having private displays this year,” said Tesco’s fireworks buyer Donna Davies.
