Asda has thrown further fuel on the fire of the country’s petrol pump wars with the announcement that it will drop prices at all of its 167 petrol stations from midnight tonight.
The move will see unleaded fall to 91.9p across the UK and northern Ireland: a drop of up to 2p a litre.
Asda said it was able to cut prices as weak US demand had led to falls in the European wholesale price.
“With costs falling, we are the first retailer to pass cost reductions back to our customers while others continue to hold on to excessive margins,” claimed Asda director David Miles.
