Asda rolls out management apprenticeship scheme

Asda will roll out its management apprenticeship programme across London stores, following the success of its pilot in four London outlets.

The two-year programme involves a first year of management training in a working environment and exercises in a development centre, and then a second year of training which results in a foundation degree and a post as a full time departmental manager.

Trials began last September and 16 apprentices in Colindale, Wembley, Burgh Heath and Clapham will be the first to ‘graduate’.

“Apprenticeships are a key part of our drive to improve national skills levels, and to ensure that businesses and individuals realise their potential to develop and move forward,” said Skills minister David Lammy.

“I urge all employers to take advantage of the extra funding we have made to help them meet their skills needs, and come forward to make more high-quality Apprenticeship places available.”
