Asda internet plan could thwart Scots alcohol crackdown

Asda could undermine the planned crackdown on alcohol promotions in Scotland by setting up warehouses in northern England and selling cheap booze online, according to reports.

Asda bosses said there was nothing to stop them – and other supermarkets – building the new distribution centres and delivering across the border.

Their comments come some ten days after the unveiling of the Scottish Government’s alcohol strategy, which includes proposals for minimum pricing on alcohol and restricting promotions such as buy-one-get-one-free offers.

Asda directors said the proposals would hit the poorest hardest.
