Asda intensifies online efforts

Asda has launched a new online non-food arm in an effort to compete with rival supermarket Tesco.

Various items are set to be included from the portal, such as furniture and clothes, with 10,000 available in total.

Asda said that a 644-page catalogue is to accompany the site and can be picked up in stores by consumers.

While the products will initially be delivered to the homes of shoppers, Asda added that there will eventually be an in-store collection option available.

A recent study carried out by the Interactive Media in Retail Group found that 68% of people are more likely to use the internet to shop at Christmas this year than last.

Moreover, researcher Gomez said that Asda’s website loads information quicker than other supermarkets after a study.
