Asda ‘best value’ for money as M&S falters: exclusive

Asda is the best value supermarket but Marks & Spencer (M&S) offers none of this value, according to a new poll.

The exclusive research carried out for TalkingRetail.com by Empathy Research found 33% of consumers think Asda gives them best value on an everyday basis, but not one (0%) could say this about M&S.

Supermarket giant Tesco came in second with 25% of respondents having said it is best value for money, and it was followed by Morrisons (16%) and Lidl (9%).

Both Sainsbury’s and Aldi were voted for by 7% of shoppers, while Waitrose and the Co-operative group took 1% each.

Among 18 to 24-year-olds, Asda was seen as good value (42% think it offers greater value than its rivals).

Asda said its Christmas sales were beyond expectations but M&S is to cut jobs after posting poor growth figures.

33% of 35 to 44-year-olds said Tesco offers them best value for money daily and 12% from the North tagged Aldi as the best.

Empathy Research (Empathymarketing.com) polled 1,000 people from its Pigsback.com consumer website.
