Asda’s chief operating officer Andy Clarke is set to be promoted to the chief executive’s role, replacing Andy Bond who will become a part-time chairman.
The supermarket chain, owned by American giant Wal-Mart, is expected to make an announcement on the new boss next week.
This follows news that Asda’s trading director Darren Blackhurst has quit – a move thought to have been sparked by Clarke’s promotion.
Bond issued a memo to staff informing them of Blackhurst’s departure, adding: “With the pending change in chief executive, we have had discussions about his future and he is taking some time out before ultimately pursuing his career elsewhere.”
