Aldi has signed a deal with Travelodge that will see hotels placed above the discount retailer’s stores.
Currently a site in Newquay is being developed, where a 74-bed hotel is to be positioned above Aldi’s supermarket.
Additionally, a Middlesbrough site is set to be completed at the end of November.
“The credit crunch is freeing up sites for development that previously would not have been viable for either of us. I am sure that we will continue to work closely together over the forthcoming years,” said managing director for development at Travelodge Paul Harvey.
In Newquay, Aldi’s store is 14,500 sq ft in size and the Middlesbrough venue is 16,700 sq ft.
Aldi has also revealed that it is set to open five central Florida stores in the coming week.
Yesterday, the German retailer claimed that business remains vigorous despite the efforts of Tesco to move into the discounter sector.
