Skills academy head and members revealed

Monday, 15 December 2008
The head and board members at Skillsmart Retail's new National Skills Academy (NSA) have been revealed.

Head Jane Rexworthy will take her place alongside executives from numerous retailers including Marks & Spencer, the skills council said.

It is hoped the creation of the academy will lead to increased training for retail staff members and be able to offer them recognised qualifications.

Additionally, it has been set up to offer a consistent approach nationally to skills and training.

Rexworthy, who has been working as project manager at the NSA, said: "I am delighted to take up the position of head and excited about continuing the hard work that we have already done in building the foundations of the academy.

"With such an experienced board and enthusiasm from both retailers and training providers, we are in the best position to make a real impact on skills in the sector."

The NSA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Skillsmart Retail.

In November, retailers were urged to apply for £12,000 of scholarships available from Skillsmart Retail.
