Waitrose revenue is slightly up

Friday, 07 November 2008

Revenue at Waitrose grew by 0.5% in the week ended 1 Nov 2008 compared to the same period last year, parent company John Lewis said today.

But revenue at John Lewis dipped by 1.3% to £57.4m, while sales fell by 0.3% to £134.3m in the same week, it revealed.

Patrick Lewis, director for retail operations, said a late half-term holiday, as well as colder weather, gave the company a "helpful lift".

Waitrose was aided by Halloween-retailed trading and a number of wine promotions, the company added.

This week, the first Waitrose supermarket was opened in the Middle East, in Dubai.

It has gone ahead with the expansion despite worries about UK business performance.
