Asda makes further petrol cut

Monday, 20 October 2008
After Morrisons revealed that it is lowering the price of petrol again, Asda has followed suit and dropped the cost of petrol and diesel at its forecourts.

From 21 October, petrol at each of the supermarket's station's will be 97.9p a litre, while diesel will be 109.9p a litre, Asda said.

Darren Blackhurst, trading director, claimed the retailer is committed to offering consumers value for money and the latest cut proves it.

"We expect oil prices to fluctuate in the coming weeks and will continue to pass on cost savings to customers whenever and wherever possible," he said.

He added that the supermarket does not want to hide behind "local pricing" and has uniform fuel charges across all of its stores.

Both supermarkets made initial cuts to their petrol prices last week to below £1 a litre, as the global price of oil began to fall.
