Brits spend more money on health and beauty items than their counterparts from other European Union (EU) countries, a new report has suggested.
According to Verdict Research in its European Health and Beauty Retailers 2008 study, per person Britons splash out a greater amount than others in the EU.
The organisation cited a number of factors for the UK figures, such as good access to a wide variety of beauty products on the shelves, the creation of more premium products and an appetite for "innovative" goods.
Per person in 2007 Brits spent €375 (£297) on these items, Verdict Research said, beating France in second with €327, while Italy was third with €305.
"We spend almost 50% more each year than the Spanish for example, and 43% more than the average European. The British are certainly happy to splash out on looking good," commented retail analyst at the company Carol Ratcliffe.
