Like-for-like sales at Asda, not including petrol, grew by 5.5% in the second quarter of the year, the company has said.
Moreover, it revealed that underlying growth for the period was 6%, factoring in the time Easter fell.
And sales of private labels Extra Special and Smartprice rose by over 20% during the quarter in comparison to the same period in 2007.
Chief financial officer at Asda Judith McKenna claimed that the figures prove the firm's overall strategy is working.
"While our low prices are undoubtedly more important than ever, new customers attracted to ASDA for the first time have been impressed by the quality of our fresh food and the choice that's now available," she said.
But she added that the firm will not be complacent in the months to come, because financial conditions are likely to become even more difficult.
Additionally, the company said that it has grown its market share 0.6% year-on-year, as confirmed by TNS figures.
