Caravan, the charity for the UK grocery and FMCG marketplace is pleased to announce a strong end to 2008 with the charity supporting over 1500 former colleagues over the holiday period.
2008 also saw the inauguration of the Caravan Achievement Awards, resulting in significant growth across both national and regional fundraising events and increased participation from the wider grocery trade.
Amongst the many high profile fundraising activities for Caravan, all of which contributed to the overall success of the year, the Annual Sporting Heroes Luncheon was Caravan’s biggest national fundraiser of 2008 and it was here that the winners of the first Caravan Achievement Awards (CAA) were announced.
The CAA is a brand new initiative designed to provide public recognition to companies who actively support the charity. 94 companies received an award or supporters certificate and eight companies were awarded a prestigious and much sought after Gold award demonstrating the fantastic and growing support from the grocery trade during 2008.
The President’s Carol Concert at the end of December was once again held at St Luke’s Parish Church in Chelsea, and proved yet another success with a total of £34K raised. Familiar faces from across the industry came together to celebrate the festivities of Christmas and show their support for Caravan.
The evening saw top industry leaders including Simon Baldry, Andy Bond, Sir Terry Leahy, Dave Lewis and Peter Marks give some inspirational readings.
Caravan also held their first London to Paris Cycle Challenge at the end of September, raising a fantastic £26k for the charity.
The challenge is running again this year on the 17th-20th September and riders of all abilities are welcome to take part, so why not team up with your colleagues and enter this fantastic event?
The first national event for 2009 is the prestigious Annual Diamond Ball which will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London on 6th March 2009.
Caravan has a great evening planned with entertainment including Motown singers ‘Signed, Sealed & Delivered.’ The event also offers a Pernod Ricard cocktail bar and the very successful ‘Grand Raffle.’
