Birds Eye reveals new sustainability report

Birds Eye, the UK’s leading Frozen Food manufacturer has published its sustainability report. The ‘Birds Eye View,’ released this week, sets out the company’s sustainability commitments going forward, and highlights its achievements to date.

Commenting on the report Anne Murphy, Birds Eye Managing Director UK & Ireland said: “We’re doing this because it’s the right thing to do, because the public wants us to and because it makes business sense. The Birds Eye View is our commitment to sustainability and we will be measuring our progress annually.”

The ‘Birds Eye View’ focuses on two key missions: the Eco-Mission and the Nutrition-Mission. These missions set out nine priority areas where Birds Eye can improve its business and have the greatest positive impact on society and the environment.

Comprehensive commitments and performance targets have been made across each of the areas and the business will report every year on its progress to ensure delivery against these promises.

The nine key areas are: climate change, waste & packaging, water use, transport miles, sustainable sourcing, ethical sourcing, positive nutritional balance, healthy lifestyles and product labelling. Examples of the commitments within these areas include: ‘to send zero food and packaging waste arising from our manufacturing operations in the UK to landfill by 2015’ and ‘to reduce CO2 emissions in our UK manufacturing operations by 30% by 2020’.
