Today’s bolsters buying power with Makro alliance

The Today’s Group has formed an alliance with Makro Cash & Carry UK to bolster both groups’ negotiating and buying power.

Makro Cash & Carry is part of Metro Group, one of Europe’s biggest trading groups with outlets in 30 countries. Makro has 33 stores in the UK offering 25,000 products across food and non food. It is the third largest UK cash and carry wholesaler with £1.1bn turnover.

According to the IGD, the Today’s group has around 350 depots with a combined turnover of £5bn.

In a statement, Today’s said the new alliance would provide benefits to both parties as they shared “similar customer-focussed values, believe in strong supplier partnerships, hold strong positions and are key players in cash and carry wholesaling”.

Philipp Dautzenberg, managing director of Makro Cash & Carry said: “I am delighted to announce our buying partnership with the Today’s Group. With Today’s as a partner on the buying side we will be able to further strengthen our offer for the independent catering and retail sector.”

Rodney Hunt, Today’s Group managing director said: “The Today’s Group’s new partnership with Makro Cash & Carry is a great achievement for us as a group, as we are proud to be associated with such a high profile and successful wholesaler. We look forward to an equally productive and profitable trading relationship in the New Year.”
