Spar trades up to premium on festive wines

Spar has pulled together a raft of deals for Christmas as part of its on-going initiative to raise the profile of its premium wine range.

Chris Lewis, Spar’s wine buying director, said: “We need to change people’s perceptions about Spar. Our biggest problem was that, five years ago, we were huge in big wine brands. We still need them, but not quite so many.”

He is looking to sell more £10 bottles of wine.

Among the Christmas deals on offer during November and December will be: Spar’s Marquis Santey Champagne half-price at £12.99; Crystal Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, half-price at £4.99; Sancerre Chene St Louis 2008, 25% off at £8.99, and Spar Chablis, down £2 to £7.99.
