Edge & Son, London Farmers Markets, Abel & Cole, Ginger Pig Limited and The Bath Pig Company will battle it out as finalists in the RSPCA Good Business Awards 2010, having been shortlisted in the independent retailer category.
Recognising the best businesses in the UK, the RSPCA Good Business Awards 2010 reward companies for their ethical approach to animal welfare.
The five companies were praised by the high profile judging panel for excellence in advancing animal welfare and going the extra mile to include best practice in their ethical business policy.
One of the judges, TV journalist and presenter Richard Johnson, said: “It’s fantastic to see independent retailers actively listening to customers and making huge steps forward for animal welfare.
“With spending on ethical goods and services showing three-fold growth over the last 10 years, they’re making a sound business move by increasing their efforts as well as an ethical one.”
The finalists for the independent retailer category are: Edge & Son, Abel & Cole, London Farmers’ Markets, Ginger Pig Limited, and The Bath Pig Company.
David Bowles, director of communications for the RSPCA, said: “A lot has been happening in the independent retailer category and we’ve seen a high standard of entries to this year’s awards.
“This is a clear indication that companies are responding to the shift towards responsible consumerism. These companies, who are striving to implement exceptional welfare standards whilst still producing a great product, deserve our recognition as they set the standard for others to work towards.”
The RSPCA Good Business Awards 2010 evening ceremony will be held at One Marylebone, London, on Wednesday 6 October.
