Makro makes board changes to ‘strengthen its customer focus’

Self-service wholesaler Makro has made further senior management changes designed to “strengthen its customer focus,” further to a previous announcement regarding board appointments (13 January 2012).

Managing director Jürgen Schwarze will now have overall responsibility for customer management. Sam Newton, formerly head of advertising at Asda, has been recruited to further champion the customer and will report directly in to Schwarze.

The customer offer in food and non-food will now have greater emphasis with two internal promotions.  Mike Baker has been appointed (acting) procurement and merchandising director of food and Otto van Harmelen has been appointed (acting) procurement and merchandising director of non-food.

Schwarze said, “The customer is the focal point of our business and the centre of everything we do. The board level appointments further demonstrate our commitment to our ensuring we have the highest quality ranges available at the most competitive price.”

“We’re confident our customer-centric approach will continue to ensure that Makro UK returns to its position of strength.”

Other recently appointed board positions include Stephen Blan as operations director and Jens Köppen as finance director.
