Symbol group Londis plans to double sales of fresh foods over the next three years.
Londis reports fresh sales up 26% year on year, following the group’s £4m investment in fresh food expansion last year, supported with new product extensions, promotional support and ongoing retailer support.
Paul Courtney, Londis sales director, said: “We now have an extensive fresh range with over 1,300 lines. We’re driving the range of best sellers into all Londis stores, providing innovative wholesale deals and supporting retailers as they embrace fresh that’s relevant to their store.”
A key winner is fresh milk, with sales doubling in the last 12 months since Londis offered milk through its retailer service centres (RSC) enabling retailers to benefit from reduced wholesale prices and more frequent deliveries. Londis is now in the process of increasing the number of milk lines through the RSCs to include regional variants, such as Cornish and West Country milk.
Fresh produce sales are up 33% year on year with the number of fresh produce lines available to Londis retailers on the increase, including seasonal favourites for the first time such as Jersey Royals and pumpkins, including extra large varieties, plus fresh strawberries from farm to store in 24 hours.
With growing demand from its retail partners, Londis has added price-marked packs and smaller case sizes to the range, offering retailers simplicity and value for money. The 21 to- selling fresh produce lines offer retailers a minimum 32% POR.
With the entire Londis fleet now with full chilled capacity, the group can supply all Londis retailers with the full fresh range.
