Demand for retail property acquisitions remains strong despite the difficult economic conditions, according to specialist property agent Christie + Co.
The company reported a 21% rise in completed deals on retail outlets such as convenience stores, off-licences and newsagents in the first six months of 2010 compared to the second half of last year.
In the same period viewings on available businesses carried out by Christie’s 15 UK offices increased by 13% to 2,253.
The half-year figures do not include the company’s marketing of 1,200 former First Quench stores on behalf of administrator KPMG, which it said had generated 3,000 offers.
Tony Evans, head of retail at Christie + Co, said: “The momentum the company experienced in the run up to the end of 2009 has continued into 2010 with experienced operators leading the way. Freehold businesses have continued to generate significant interest.”
