Costcutter launches new Direct Supplier Directory

Costcutter Supermarkets Group has underlined its commitment to local retailers and the communities they serve with the launch of a new Direct Supplier Directory which features over 550 suppliers from across the United Kingdom.

The new initiative – part of its ‘Proud to be Local’ campaign – provides retailers with access to locally produced goods from across the UK, allowing them to meet an increasing consumer demand for products manufactured in their local area. It also enables retailers to source a wide variety of goods and create full category ranges with regional produce from further afield.

Richard Nicholson, trading manager at Costcutter Supermarkets Group, said: “There is an increasing demand from consumers for locally produced goods and Costcutter Supermarkets Group has an extremely enviable regional supply network. The creation of this new directory puts all of these suppliers into one easy to use document, allowing retailers to identify local suppliers in their area who they may wish to source products from.

“It also creates the opportunity for retailers to develop specific regional categories within their store with products sourced from different regions around the UK.”

Further reinforcing Costcutter Supermarkets Group’s commitment to local products is a new range of ‘Local Produce’ POS that has been launched. The suite includes 90 degree shelf talkers and shelf edge strips in a hessian style design, immediately identifying local products within a store.

Jennifer Holmes, retail marketing manager for Costcutter Supermarkets Group, said: “Costcutter Supermarkets Group is Proud to be Local and with consumers becoming much more interested in the provenance of the products they purchase we felt it was important to produce some dedicated POS to allow retailers to highlight the locally produced products in their store.”

The Direct Supplier Directory is published quarterly and is available to all Costcutter Supermarkets Group retailers. A dedicated Direct Supplier website will also be launched later this year, providing advanced search functions to further assist retailers in sourcing local products.
