A new promotional package has been offered to independent retailers in an area of Edinburgh by Bellevue Cash & Carry, as Asda opens a new store there.
Landmark Wholesale member Bellevue is allowing all retailers in Asda’s catchment area in Newhaven the opportunity to compete with the new supermarket.
Head of sales and marketing Colin Smith said: “This new Asda supermarket is clearly going to impact on local retailers in the area so we have decided to put together a retail package which we are confident will help them compete on a level playing field.
“Like all other businesses, the independent retail sector is having to cope with the current economic downturn as consumers curb their spending and seek out keener offers in-store.”
Consumer offers are being promised to retailers who participate in the campaign. These include those on Andrex toilet roll, Heinz Baked Beans and Tetley Tea Bags.
Smith added: “We want to raise awareness of the benefits of shopping locally, helping cash-strapped consumers to save money and, at the same time, waste less food by using their local shop more frequently.”
The firm was the runner-up in the cash & carry category in this year’s Scottish Wholesale Achievers awards.
