Budgens launches new bakery lines

Budgens continues to develop its own-brand range by expanding its bakery range.

Four new products are being launched within tortilla wraps, pancakes and crumpets ranges.

Other lines within the Budgens bakery category have also been re-branded to further complement the new range.

These include the existing Budgens ‘Best’ crumpets, the naan bread, which is now in the new Budgens Indian subgroup branding, and the pitta bread, which also has had a fresh new look in line with the other products in the bakery range.

Dunstable-based, family business Honeytop Speciality Foods are producing the new products for Budgens in addition to the Budgens naan and pitta breads, which they already supply.

The Honeytop business has gone from strength to strength since diversifying beyond naan and flatbreads into morning goods and tortillas.

The business started out in 1984 supplying just naans and flatbreads on a small scale to multiples. In 2008 a new bakery was built and in-house engineers created bespoke hot-plate lines to bake batter-based products, including pancakes and crumpets.

Honeytop’s managing director Mark Laurence said: “The secret to Honeytop’s success is its ability to innovate. We’re driving forward quality and innovation in own brands.”

Willie Hamilton, Budgens’ trading director, said, “The Bakery category is key for many of our retailers and we’re delighted to be able to offer Budgens customers an enhanced range of quality products with these new lines.”
