Booker chief executive Charles Wilson has called on the independent sector to draw a line on any “doom and gloom” following the Competition Commission inquiry into the grocery market.
“We didn’t think the inquiry was going to help independents and it didn’t,” he said.
“There is now a real danger that our trade will start looking at itself as a victim. When Booker was in decline two years ago it was easy for others to strategise failure.
“It is difficult to run an independent business and it is still an uneven playing field, but over time we will tilt it.
