Batleys rolls out education pack for retailers

Cash and carry operator Batleys is rolling out an education pack for its retailers aimed at helping them compete more effectively.

The Perfect Store package aims to provide the group’s Xtra Local retailers with support information from a range of key suppliers, including Cadbury, Nestlé, Unilever and other fast-moving consumer goods suppliers.

Xtra Local retailers will be presented with Perfect Store from the beginning of June.

According to Martin Race, Batleys operations director, the group has recently been developing the guidelines to inform members how the independent sector is changing through the impact of the major multiples.

“Advice is being provided on how independents can reposition themselves, become more professional and develop their business from a convenience platform,” he explained.

“Suppliers within Perfect Store use it as their shop window to inform retailers of who they are, the brands that they own or represent, top-line market statistics, must-stocks and all other relevant information which retailers could gain benefit from.”

Race claimed the guidelines also included an unbiased view of category management. Sectors include confectionary, feminine care and paper, with crisps and snacks as well as soft drinks planned to follow.

“This all adds up to simple and practical information that will help retailers realise the true potential of convenience retailing,” he added.
