Anti-Tesco campaigner joins ACS board

Independent retailer and sector campaigner Nigel Dowdney has been appointed to the Association of Convenience Stores’ (ACS’s) main board.

Dowdney runs two Norfolk-based convenience stores, Stalham Shopper and Earlham Shopper, and he is a board member of the Redorange symbol group.

He also chairs the area’s ‘Buy Local’ campaign and is campaigning against plans by Tesco to double the size of its Stalham store.

He sits on the ACS Government Relations and Campaigns Committee and the Independent Retailer Board, which nominated him for the main board post.

“Nigel is a shining example of independent retailing in the UK,” said ACS chief executive James Lowman.

Dowdney succeeds Mike Sherwood, who steps down after a long association with the ACS. He will continue working for the organisation.
