Northern Irish retailers gain from weak pound

Sunday, 16 November 2008
Retailers in the North of Ireland are benefitting from the weakness of sterling against the Euro, as shoppers cross the border for their groceries.

According to Ireland's Sunday Business Post, the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce has complained to the Irish government about its failure to tackle high food costs in the Republic, which is having a detrimental effect on retailers in the South.

Independent retailers along the southern side of the border were being especially hard hit.
