The move follows a lengthy period that saw the outfit team up with Oakland International Limited, a multi-temperature supply-chain specialist.

Recently, Spar unveiled the latest of its Stores of the Future, located in Broomhill, Glasgow and now retailers are set to benefit from a number of changes, the duo claimed, such as cross-docking and pallet consolidation.

Management and supply chain director at Spar Steve Blackmore said that the retailer can improve its service while also "having a significant positive impact on our carbon footprint".

Efficiency and availability were also key to the company's move towards using the measures, it added.
